The most frequent question I have heard is "What haircut fits me best?" Then I noticed that most of people don't know much about their face shapes, so I decided to explain some important aspects you have to know before you think what haircut fits you best.
What shape is my face?
There are lots of information online about it but I would like to go into some details. First of all, we can't just look at extremities of the face, we have to understand that all elements in a face like forehead, eyebrows, eyes, nose, cheeks, chin, mouth and jaw, have different shapes and those shapes have influence on how you look.
For exemple you can have a oval extremity but all others elements like, eyes, eyebrows, nose, etc.. have another format so it's more difficult to understand what shape we have just looking what’s my contour shape.
Said that, the most important thing is, how you feel about the shapes do your face?
If you think its too squared, too thin, too large, now you’re going to understand better how to choose a shape that will help you.
Try to fit the shape you feel that yours are more likely, its only about shape, not type of hair.
Lets take a look at this image, would you say those people have these face shape, if its wasn’t at draw over it?
Our eyes obey every signal of image, said that, its get influenced by the white line over it, same happens with haircuts shapes, the ideia is to apply a shape that brings that caracteristcs that you want!
Now we've just discovered what shape our face is, but we still don't know what haircut fits you best, let's see what you have to avoid or allow for each of shape.
Square face
If you want to reduce the square aspect, you should opt-in for curves and long lengths, stretching the looking.
Short length and volume, it will reinforce the square format.
Round face
If you want to reduce the round aspect, you should opt-in for diagonal shapes, medium or long length with no much layers.
Reinforce round shape, short blunt-haircut, if you notice the picture I used above, the asian model has a short haircut.
Inverted triangle face
Any length easy, layers or not.
Diagonal lines brings more modern look, more angled the lines more notable.
Oval face
Very general shape, its a shape that is easy to adapt to another, and any other format is possible.
Is you want to easily change the oval shape, try not divide in the middle, avoid simetria and give more diagonal shapes.
Rectangle face
A retangular is a shape that has its power and solid, straight line isn’t it?
Its a very easy shape to became another, any horizontal or diagonal line already transform the shape, like bangs, or length.
Length
This second step begins helping you deciding the length you most want, for this I recommend you to stand up in front of a mirror and fold the ends, observing what length will make you look the way you want.
Next step you have to decide how much volume you want on the ends and how much volume you want up to your shoulders, but one interferes in the other. Let's explain a bit more.
When we decide having more volume at up the shoulders, consequently we remove the volume on the ends and this type of hair will need more time to take care of unless you like thinner ends.
Messy or tidy?
Just to remember, messy looks are more young, have more volume up to the shoulders and easy to deal with, tidy looks are more conservative and less volume up to the shoulders and have more volume on the ends.
Bangs or not
Cruel decision, getting bangs or not?
My advice is, just get bangs if you know how to deal with it, because it takes some time to understand what styling you will give and how to brush it perfectly everyday.
That's all!
